2025 Year in Review

 Foreshadowing words from December 2024…

“Overall this has been the lowest fly time for me since I started flying back in 2005. I sure hope it will be better times ahead or it might be time to finally ring the bell and hang up the ownership spurs.”

By The Numbers:

Total Time     1609.8
ASEL 2023        21.6
Complex          21.6/336.8
Cross Country    13.3/1009.6
IMC               0 /43.4

Fast forward to December 2025

I finished up the year with 22 hours, which has been the absolute lowest total since I started flying in 2005. There has been no new airports and no new adventures. There has been an annual inspection, multiple maintenance issues and the start of an interior refit.

Our trip to Vero Beach in March was a no go due to weather. We still went to Vero, but we ground pounded. Mary and I visited friends near Fort Myers so that was an additional 3 Hour drive across the state as opposed to a half hour flight if we had the plane. Our scheduled trip to Galveston, Texas with an initial overnight in Chattanooga Tennessee was also wiped out due to weather. I guess I should add that we tried to go to Saint Simons island twice in 2024 and yes, mother nature planned otherwise, this year we drove.

Once annual was complete in June and the two new seats installed, I was looking forward to getting back into flying. Unfortunately, the first day tugging the plane out of the hanger, which was August 4, My tug handle broke and I fell backwards and broke my wrist.  I broke my scaphoid bone which typically requires surgery, but instead, I showed healing and was in a hard splint for ten weeks. I have been in physical therapy now for six weeks.

I have returned to flight, but it’s been a battle with maintenance items popping up. My first flight back I had a gear line develop a pin hole leak. Once that was fixed I returned to the air only to have my JPI engine monitor act up and noticed that the induction air lever throw was not full range.

I’m not sure if I’ll take a commercial flight back from Florida to pick up 3 Tango Charlie. I had wanted to have the plane with us in Florida for some fun travels. With all the problems and me having a hard time climbing in and out of 3 Tango Charlie I think it’s time for me to maybe list her for sale. I’ll consider posting an ad once I gather the numbers and complete the few maintenance items that have come up. It’s been a fun run. For Mary and I it will be time to ride the commercial flights. At least it's easier to board and I wont give a hoot about weather.

As for my YouTube Channel, I'm not really sure what direction I'll go. I will keep this blog up and running to document our travels. Thanks for reading along.

Vero Beach 2025

It’s that time of year again, time for the annual get-away to Vero Beach. Mary and I are really looking forward to heading south. We have had three snowstorms so far this year and two were plowing events. Did I happen to mention how much I DO NOT like the cold? This winter has been pretty rough on me, between the rain and snow my body and its after market metal parts are aching. Our plan is to head south for Vero and spend a week then make the short cross state hope to Estero to visit friends from our community that are snowbirds.

Weather Checks

All the weather checks to this point for a Monday departure are calling for rain all along the east coast. I'm not really looking forward to a day of heavy rain at times with chances for boomers in Florida and mainly around Vero Beach.
I'm going to bump up departure day to Friday, March 14th. The weather along the route looks better but with low IFR here at the beach for most of the day today and Saturday until 10pm it looks like a drive vs flight. This does not make me happy.

Departure Day -  Friday 3.14
Ughhh... Time to saddle up and point south. I'm not looking forward to another drive let alone the longer drive home from Estero (Ft. Myers). The bags are packed and loaded into the brides GLC300. The drive checklist is completed, snacks, full fuel, fluids checked, and new Pirelli tires.
Wow, what a drive. 16.5 hours straight through with two fuel stops. I should note that when passing through Norfolk a man had crossed the road wearing all black clothing and he jumped clear of my right front fender as I swerved left as I passed him at 50-55 mph. If there was a car on my right they would have taken him out. We did pass another accident in the Carolinas with the concrete barrier taking two cars out, one was a roll over. Thankfully the rest of the drive was uneventful. It is so much safer to fly!

We arrived at the Hampton Inn in West Vero Beach about 10:30 in the morning. Checked into the hotel and our rooms were not ready. They would call when we could get in. Mary got the call at 2:30 that the rooms were good to go. I was worn out, I looked and felt like a zombie. I should mention that I drove down in sweats and a T-shirt and my slippers. Honestly, as bad as I looked, I would’ve passed for a homeless person. I honestly didn’t care.

We didn’t unload all our baggage, but packed a small go bag. I laid down about quarter of three and didn’t get up until about 7:15 Sunday morning.

Vacation! Sunday 3.16

Good morning Vero Beach! Wow! 16 hours of sleep sure does a body good. After fantastic showers, Mary and I went out to look for breakfast. We stumbled across a place we really fell in love with the last time we were here, the Kountry Kitchen.
This breakfast hotspot is located right across from station 49 one of our favorite dinner places, which to our surprise has sadly closed. More on that later. It was a short wait and we sat outside and enjoyed the 70+ degree temps and a nice breeze. Once seated, we ordered breakfast and let me tell you it was tremendous. Excellent service, excellent food, We’ll be back this week. We ran a few errands, car wash, grocery store, and Ulta for my bride.

Once the errands were completed we headed over to the Ocean Breeze hotel, and checked in. They took our information, but the room was not ready. Since we had some time to kill, we pointed north for the Sebastian Airport. I have passed on multiple offers for a hanger over the last couple of years since we haven’t secured a place to live over the winter. More on this later. The drive north from Vero was 18 miles and just over 20 minutes. I should add that living the retired life has left me with no clue of what day of the week it is. It’s Sunday! Sebastian Airport was locked up, no signs of life. I’ll call tomorrow morning to inquire about covered tie-downs. I did call and there is shaded tie downs. Of course there is a wait list, I’m now on it. I think I was told it would be around $260ish, I did not write it down. Either way it’s better than the $750 hangar rent.

With a mission fail, we regrouped and picked a lunch place since it’s now about 1 o’clock. I found a great parking spot at the hotel right next to the elevators, locked up the SUV and headed to lunch. We decided to try Bobby’s, which is located just two buildings to the north. Somehow, I managed to walk back to the SUV with this full belly. Mary went to check if the room was ready and if not, she was gonna hit a couple of stores located next-door to the hotel. I on the other hand took our dessert, started the truck, cranked up the air-conditioning and waited for my bride while I caught up this blog post. Not a bad view of the ocean while I type this out, life is good.

Monday 3.17

Rise and shine it’s time to find some breakfast. Mary and I went back-and-forth on a few places and then decided to just go back to the Kountry Kitchen since we are headed that direction to look at property. It’s a bit scary that I can find my way Back across the Merrill Barber bridge and navigate to the breakfast location.  Good eats an excellent service once again leaves us with full tummies ready to explore.

First stop Walker Woods. We previously had a tour scheduled for Friday, but decided that we wanted to get on the road to head to Fort Myers right after breakfast. With rain in the forecast today we decided to tour potential winter getaways.

When we arrived, the ladies in the office remembered us from last year. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. We decided to look at two apartments. The first was a one bedroom fully furnished first floor unit. The layout was very nice but the furniture was huge, way too big for the rooms. Their fully furnished apartment would run about $500 more a month, we don’t think it’s worth that extra fee.
Next, we looked at a two bedroom unfurnished and it would be a perfect fit. The two bedroom one bath unit had a small dining area, walk-in closets and a separate dedicated washroom, which would be good for the boys litter box. My bride did say it’ll be fun shopping for furniture… Yay, I’m excited, insert eye roll.

With the winter home plan in place Mary set her sights on the outlets. As we left the apartment complex and turned onto Route 60 west there was a Wawa. Having a Wawa that close is definitely a big-time pro versus con.

In a real surprise moment, my bride said we should go look at the places in Village Green, which is an over 55 community. We ended up touring three homes. Again these homes were not very expensive but they all had a $900-$1100 land lease. We decided to pass on the second properties we visited, even though we liked the community. This community had a land lease, and we would have to maintain the home. In comparison, there would be no maintenance cost associated with the apartment. There would also be no land lease on top of the rental price. Different strokes for different folks, this is what works for us. We headed back to our hotel to get some beach and pool time and we’re convinced that the apartment is the way to go.

There are so many logistic decisions to be made when it comes to living down here for a few months in the winter. Number one the cats, our boys, they would have to be with us. Next is the transportation issue, to and from Florida, and ground transportation for a month or three. There is no way we could rent a car for multiple months, that’s just crazy. So much to think about and still have to work the numbers to see how it all plays out.

Time for some sun and fun on the beach. The company that provided beach chairs and umbrellas under contract with the hotel did not have their contract renewed. Hmmm… no sun protection  on our Casper the ghost bodies, that’s a no go. We opted for the pool with comfortable chairs and an umbrella. Let the grilling begin.
Mary and I looked for a new to us restaurant and decided on Coopers Chop House and Seafood. The restaurant was very nice and the service was excellent. Mary had baked lobster thermidor over yukon mashed potatoes with asparagus. I had bolognese over linguine.

Dessert? Don’t be silly. Yes, dessert to go. I selected carrot cake and Mary had red velvet cake.

Tuesday 3.18

A bit later of a start than normal for Mary and I. We headed out for breakfast at 9:30 making our first stop at the Lemon Tree. The wait was at least thirty minutes so we saddled up for a second  location. We made the short drive over the Merrill Barber bridge and in just a few turns we parked at TooJays.
As you walk in the door you have to pass the bakery case and then the deli case. We managed to safely pass and entered the seating area. I ordered a waffle with home fries and sausage links. Mary had two eggs with fresh fruit and rye toast.  The food was very good and the rye toast was especially tasty. Once we settled up the bill we made a stop at the display cases. Yes, we purchased some oatmeal raisin and macadamia nut cookies along with a few macaroons. A loaf of the rye with a stick of butter would have worked too.

Time for the beach! On the way back to the hotel we ducked into Walmart for a beach chair and umbrella. Why one chair? The office gave us two beach/sand chairs to use but that’s way too low for me. A benefit of driving to vacation is no weight and balance to deal with, said no pilot ever.

A relaxing day now winding down with our dinner selection of Vero Prime scheduled for 5:30.
Mary had veal picatta and I had a filet with a twice baked potato and maple glazed carrots. Good eats and good service. We took dessert home, bourbon pecan pie for me and chocolate cake for my bride.

Wednesday 3.19

I missed another sunrise. Maybe I’ll get a video tomorrow. Once up and dressed we headed a block south to the Lemon Tree for breakfast. No line this morning at 8am so we were quickly seated. I still think Kountry Kitchen is better but Lemon Tree is closer.

Once back to our room we changed for the beach. Mary packed a beach bag and we carried our chairs and umbrella. The beach to water distance is very close here compared to our Ocean City beach. We quickly set up, my bride in the sun and me in the shade. I watched the air traffic in and out of Vero and the planes tracking along the shore. I did notice there are no banner planes here.
We packed up and headed to the room at 1pm to shower and relax. We met my brother and his wife along with my sister-in-laws sister and her husband for an early dinner (3pm) at Craby’s Dockside in Fort Pierce.

It’s always fun catching up with my brother. I miss him living so close when they lived in Delaware and now he's in Port St. Lucie Florida.

Thursday 3.20

A beautiful sunrise at 7:24, a great start to our day. Following breakfast we claimed our place on the beach to soak up some sun and enjoy our last day in Vero. Tomorrow we travel across the state to Estero, just south of Fort Myers.
Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full. It’s a busy day at Vero Beach, KVRB. Plenty of pattern work and airplane noises to keep me occupied.
We headed back to our room and enjoyed some downtime in the air conditioning. Dinner this evening will be at the Scampi Grill. Every time we pass this place the parking lot is full, that has to be a good sign.
The only reservation available was 4:45. That’s a bit early for us but better than eating after 7pm. Mary had salmon piccata and I had chicken piccata.

Friday 3.21

Fort Myers/Estero

Wakey wakey time for eats and then get on the road to Ft. Myers. Mary and I made a stop at TooJays for breakfast and yes we did take a monster loaf of rye bread to go. Three hours later, many cattle ranches and sod farms passed, and we’re checking into the Hampton Inn.

Our friends Anna and Bob picked us up in their new to them golf cart. It was just a short ride back to their winter rental. We sat and chatted for a bit then headed out to lunch in Bonita Springs at Coconut Jacks.
I had blackened mahi tacos with black beans and rice. My bride had scallops. Dinner was very good as well as the service.

I took this picture that shows how high the water line was for each storm. Hurricane Ian in 2022 topped the door openings by a foot. Irma (2017) was about a foot above floor level.

We took a drive through Bonita Springs and parts of Ft. Myers. There are so many homes still needing repairs. I did get to see major ongoing bridge work and took some photos along with a short video.
We hung out with our friends until another couple we know from home wanted to catch up for drinks and appetizers. Lynn and Clark now joined the four of us and we headed out. As we approached the restaurant I tripped on the wheel chair ramp. Yep, yours truly took a header landing on my left wrist and knee as I have learned to protect all my metal parts on my right side. All the outside diners let out a collective gasp as I stood back up, some asking if I was ok. I replied; Yes, thank you, I’m good, maybe I need that first drink now. Laughter  erupted and I made it into the restaurant without further incident or embarrassment.

We sat and laughed, shared munchies and enjoyed our drinks. Before we knew it we actually closed the place. I sure haven’t done that in forty plus years and back then it was bars.

Saturday 3.22

We did get to sleep in this morning, which is always a good thing. I woke up with a sore back and swollen left knee as a reward for my stunt work last night. It will be a two Advil day.

Mary and I did a quick breakfast here at the Hampton. It was food, at least the juice was good. The plan is to catch up with Anna and Bob this morning around 10:30 and figure what’s up from there.

The crew of six headed out to the Vanderbilt Beach Resort in Naples. We had reservations to dine at the Turtle Club, the onsite restaurant on the beach. The service was excellent and our waiter, who was from Serbia, did a remarkable job and he had a sense of humor too.
Clark and Lynn had a commitment for the afternoon so Anna, Bob, Mary and I headed to Tin City for some shopping. The ladies enjoyed the shops while Bob and I kept the bench seat warm and people watched. After checking out all the shops we headed back to Ana and Bobs for some R&R. We sat and chatted for hours sharing laughs and having a good time. Bob gave us a tour of the property with his new golf cart and then dropped us off at our hotel. We had an absolute blast and the trip across the state to spend time with treasured friends was a lot of fun for Mary and I.

Sunday 3.23

It's 6:30, time to finish packing up and getting on the road by 7am. We drove for a few hours then stopped to top off the tank and grab some quick eats at McDonalds. As I started to pull out I caught traffic coming from my left and made a hard stop, saving a potential ugly accident that would have been my fault.  Ughhh...wake up!

Once I gathered myself up we continued north. We made three fuel stops, two at Buc-ee's, Florida and North Carolina. I also did a top off in Emporia Virginia. Traffic was really slow along Route 4 through Florida and then there were a few accidents in the Carolina's that slowed the pace. We finally arrived home at 1am Monday morning. 18 hours of driving with three fuel/two of those were also food stops.

Next year is a fly or no vacation!!  I'm too old for this road warrior gig. Here are some numbers.

Total Miles- 2352
MPG- 28.6
Hours driven - 38 (not counting around Vero)

2024 Year in Review

By The Numbers:

Total Time     1588.2
ASEL 2023        28.7
Complex          53.0/315.2
Cross Country     7.1/996.3
IMC                .4/43.4

New Airports:

KSAVSavannah/Hilton Head International Airport. Savannah, Georgia
KISOKinston Regional Jetport at Stallings Field. Kinston, North Carolina

Flights of Note:

Our Vero Beach flight was a bust due to a gear issue just 30 minutes into our flight south. Instead we ground pounded 15 hours to start our vacation. We really enjoy the get-away to Vero. The town is very clean, quiet, and the beach is perfect. The food choices are really good too! It's always fun catching up with my brother while we are in town.
We are looking forward to our annual flight in March, but this time by plane.

Our original plan was to head to Texas and explore Galveston. I was having some serious knee problems so the longer flight was scratched and instead we pointed for Georgia. Savannah has been on our list and we finally got to cross it off as completed. Mary and I really had a fun time exploring the city and it's history.

Recap for 2024:

I lost the opportunity to put at least 12 hours on my totals with the blown Vero Trip. The trip to Saint Simmons Island was weathered out twice. Once in September with Hurricane Helene and then in October with Hurricane Milton. This trip would have added 8 hours to the overall flight time. Last but not least we planned a get-away to St. Augustine to make up for the missed anniversary trip and now my birthday. Of course St. Augustine experienced one of the coldest weeks with highs in the low 60's and overnights at 40 degrees from 12/6 through 12/9. I missed another opportunity to add on 10 hours of fly time. So, with another no-go south we headed north to Wilmington to visit friends and family for the holidays. Did I fly, no. A multiple day stay would cost so much more with car rental so we took Marys SUV and enjoyed the very short get-away. On the flip side we had a new roof put on the house while away. $$

Baltimore FSDO Visit
One additional note to add for 2024. I was contacted by the FAA FSDO Baltimore with regard to my window tint. They say it's not portable meaning it can't be easily removed, thus it's not an approved part on a certified aircraft. This lead to a visit to the hangar and a look at my log books. The FAA grounded my plane. So in order to have my plane returned to service I had to have the material removed under the supervision of an A&P. Another choice was to have the material removed and apply for a ferry permit to fly it to my shop and have an A&P sign off. I decided to have an A&P at my hangar for the inspection. Once the product was removed the A&P provided a log entry approving the process and confirming no damage to the windows.

The Process
Once I tugged 3 Tango Charlie out on the ramp and left her in the sun for maybe 20 minutes the product was easily removed in less then 2 minutes a side. Honestly, this flying stuff isn't as fun as it used to be. I paid the A&P for his travel time, an hour each way, and his time spent supervising the removal. The owner of the company removed the tint at no charge but I gave him gas money for his effort, a two plus hour drive each way. Fly a plane they say, it will be fun they said. Insert eyeroll!

What’s in store for 2025?
For starters we hope the weather allows more fly time for our travels.

On tap for the upcoming year will be Vero, our annual event, so that's always on our list. We would also like to finally explore St. Simmons Island and St. Augustine. We will explore and check out HGTV's Restoring Galveston. The plan is to then head to the Dallas area to visit our friend Sandra (Flights of the Mouse)and catch up with our friends Anita and Dave along with grandbaby dog Daisy.

Mary and I have been talking about our west coast swing. We're not getting any younger so it's time to start planning the south west tour and then explore the west coast. We want to explore California. I'm thinking from a home base in San Diego I would really like to drive the coast north. Planning stops in Los Angeles and the Reagan Library, NAPA Valley winerys, and visiting family. Santa Monica is on the list and maybe to spend a couple of nights then drive back to the plane in San Diego. It's just a plan for now, I'm not sure how long my bride will want to be away from home.

Overall this has been the lowest fly time for me since I started flying back in 2005. I sure hope it will be better times ahead or it might be time to finally ring the bell and hang up the ownership spurs. We shall see.

Vero Beach Vacation and Gear Issue

We are headed back to Vero Beach. Vero has become or favorite go to place over the last few years. We have searched for a condo for two of those visits but with Ziva nobody would take a large dog.

This year we renew the hunt but we are also considering apartments. Mary and I have worked all the numbers and the easiest way to avoid an initial purchase cost with a possible land lease or HOA fees is to just rent an apartment. We even ran numbers to compare renting a pet friendly place for two or three months to the tune of 6-9k a month. For an additional 4k we would have our own place available all year round. As bad as my body feels when it gets cold I would be happy to head south in October and not come back until April.

The Weather Watch

Some of my go to weather pages have changed or gone away but I have been working on some new to me weather tools for my cross country flight planning. I always use Foreflights Imagery and MOS on the weather selection along with Windy, Aviation Weather Center, Weather Underground.

Sunday 3.10 Pre-Flight

It's the day before departure and I am going to complete my preflight and fuel sump. Total fuel on board for our flight south is 55 gallons. 3 Tango Charlie is ready to go and I'll turn on the preheats overnight for our planned departure of 8am.

Monday 3.11 Departure Day

Rise and shine we're on vacation! Well, almost. Bags were packed yesterday and the SUV is ready to go. Mary and I will make a breakfast stop at the local eatery, Abi's Diner. We have a few snacks and water packed for the flight.

Todays routing will be Ocean City (KOXB) to Mt. Pleasant SC (KLRO)for a fuel and go.There were no cameras today, I just didn’t feel up for it.

We departed Ocean City in very strong gusty winds and pointed for Snow Hill VOR.  As we reached the mid peninsula we were rocked by strong wind gusts between 40 and 49 knots at six thousand five hundred. I believe the gust actually pulled the gear door open which triggered a gear warning light. I canceled flight following with Potomac approach and diverted to Accomack.

I needed to loose altitude so I circled around and worked my way down to a safe altitude and activated the auto pilot for heading and altitude to perform the emergency gear dump just to be safe. I heard and felt all three gear drop with the nose gear needing a bit of a shake. Finally three green confirmed.

I contacted Accomack (KMFV) operations to ask for a gear check as I made a low pass with a visual confirmation. The gear was down, now I hope it indeed was locked. Mary and I talked about what if situations when she asked if the gear isn’t locked then what. Awkward pause, then we’re done flying because it will belly in. I felt her anxiety with just her look. My bride said, trying to ease tension, I’m done flying if that happens, me too.

It seemed like a long flight back to OCMD. I tried multiple times to have OC Ops give me one more confirmation but nobody answered. Did I mention the gusty winds? It was a serious ride em’ cowboy landing. I held off and somehow gently rolled the mains on followed by a nice wheelie, gently letting the nose gear touch. We were still rolling on three good gear.

I tucked 3 Tango Charlie in the hangar and we decided to drive to Vero Beach FL. I haven’t made this drive in forty years, but I was up for the challenge. After switching vehicles from my 2003 MB ML 320 to our 2017 MB GLC300 we were on our way, it was 10:30.

Two fuel stops with one fast food stop coupled with the second gas and go, and we were back at it. 15 hours later we arrived at our hotel, on the beach, in Vero at 2am.

Tuesday 3.12

Not exactly an early start but we did manage some sleep. A must stop at the Lemon Tree for breakfast and then a few errands. I needed to fill the tank on the GLC 300 and clean the hundreds of bugs off the windshield and grill. Really gross!

We made a stop to surprise Mary’s friend Jen at her new location. Her store is beautiful and she was surprised to see us. We’ll catch up later this week. Next we’re off to the super market for water and P&J Crustables for beach snacks. Mary also had to shop for a new bathing suit since her brand new one was still at home. We both forget the most simple things. The rest of the day will be relaxing on the balcony listening to the crashing waves while Mary reads her book and I work on this blog post.

We decided on an early dinner at the Edgewood eatery. Wow, once again this place did not disappoint. I had the Bolognese that was awesome and Mary had the roasted chicken over polenta, spinach and chicken-Dijon jus which she said was tremendous. Sorry, the food looked too good not to dig in, so no pictures.

Wednesday 3.13

The plan was to get up early, do breakfast, then some much needed beach time. Mary and I are going to meet my brother and his wife for lunch at 1pm in Fort Pierce. Instead, we slept in, I really needed the down time. My bride said I was out by 8pm and I woke up around 7:30.

We were both slow moving but did manage to make breakfast at 9am. Good eats and service at the lemon tree.

With full tummies we headed west back across the Indian river Merrill Barber bridge to look at property. We liked the complex we checked out but they are not taking applications at this time because the waiting list is full. Why do I think this will be like the hangar wait list.

The ride back to the hotel is twenty minutes. We freshened up and then headed south to Crabby’s Dockside to meet up with my brother. Lunch was excellent! Mary had scallops and I had the coconut shrimp. My bride also had two mojitos which made for a sooner then I hoped departure for the hotel. Lately it’s been a once a year visit with my brother so I was really looking forward to spending more time together. I plan on heading back down solo when Mary and our friend Susan, from Newport News, heads off to Rhode Island on a bus trip. We returned to the hotel and I worked on the blog while the princess slept.

Thursday 3.14

Finally some beach time! It felt good getting some sun and just relaxing. Mary pulled her chaise out from under the umbrella to work on a tan, I turn brown just being outside.

We got a call from the hotel to switch rooms because we had a maintenance issue so we packed up and headed back to our room. We moved to the second floor ocean view where we should have been from day one, but that’s another story.

It was nice to sit on the balcony and watch the waves and leave the sliding doors open for the sea breeze.
We cleaned up for dinner and then made the short walk north to Bobby’s. Dinner was excellent, and so was the service.

Friday 3.15

Rise and shine! What a beautiful start to the day.

It was time to change things up for breakfast so we crossed the Indian river and headed over to Beach Bum Bagels. A busy little place that was very good as far as customer service and the food was also very good.

We headed to the beach and the umbrella/chair set ups were all reserved. The young man working this morning said we needed a special pass from the hotel. Hmmm, typically we pay cash or credit and we’re good to go. The new hotel policy requires a pass to rent the set up.

Mary walked over to the office to find out if we need the pass as guests, yep, we did, and there are none left. I kept chatting with the young man and eventually he rented us the set up since I convinced him we would be three hours max. He then could re-rent our set up for another full day charge, since we would not return once we left. Cha-Ching! He took my $30.

Once showered and ready to find lunch we headed over to look at a few more properties. We found one apartment complex we really liked but would need to furnish. Mary and I also revisited some communities that are land lease, which seems to be the norm. We found one home, just a thousand SF, 2br/2bath

After meeting with the agent it was confirmed the roof and A/C are 17 years old. Most of the kitchen appliances will need to be replaced, and the big red flag is the bedrooms back up to a busy roadway. It was a super clean cute place that would be perfect for us, but I think it’s a pass. One good point was a new Wawa just up the street. One not so good was me twisting my already messed up right knee stepping out of the SUV on to the uneven yard.

We’ll keep up the search but for now we are going to find a late lunch early dinner destination.

Station 49 was our choice. We hit this place every year and we order the same thing. Mary gets the Carbonara and I ordered Paradelle with Bolognese. I also had a side of two Advil's, it helped eased the knee pain.

Saturday 3.16

We decided to try a new place for breakfast this morning. The Kountry Kitchen was really busy but service was excellent and the food just as good. Mary and I both were bums most of the day, her reading and me working on the blog. The balcony afforded us some sunshine without having to do the beach as we both just relaxed.

Sunday 3.17

We decided to bug out one day early and head for home. Here we are crossing the Dames Point bridge in Jacksonville Florida. I made two fuel stops along the way and completed the 15.5 hour drive, arriving home at midnight.

Now for the fun stuff. I scheduled gear service at Sussex aero for Thursday. I am taking today off to let the back get happy again then do some preliminary checks on the gear tomorrow. Update posts and pictures to follow.
